Passenger traffic at Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport, Israel's main gateway to the world, will reach 2.6m this summer bringing the total number of passengers to a record 10.5m during 2008.
Israel Airport Authority data released last week noted that some 15,500 takeoffs and landings will be recorded during July - August 2008, 10% higher than in the parallel two months last year.
The data also indicates that some 55,000 passengers will pass through the airport each day flying in & out on 300 flights.
During the five months January to May 2008 some 4,251,066 passengers passed through the airport an increase of 13.8% in comparison with the same period last ear. On Tuesday last Ben-Gurion International Airport reopened Terminal 1 to international flights, after an NIS 8 million renovation.
Terminal 1 will be open until October 31 this year, at which time the terminal will close down for a broader renovation, costing NIS 35 million. Ben-Gurion means to reopen it on a larger scale for the summer of 2009.
