The bill sets the terms and conditions for a passenger's eligibility for compensation for the cancellation or delay of a flight, or for not being allowed to board.
The Knesset (Israeli parliament) Economic Affairs Committee approved last week and gave a green light for the second reading of a bill to regulate compensation for aviation passengers whose flights are canceled or delayed.
The bill sets the terms and conditions for a passenger's eligibility for compensation for the cancellation or delay of a flight, or for not being allowed to board.
Compensation for cancellation or delay includes free assistance, refund of expenses, an alternative ticket, and financial compensation.
A passenger denied his rights under the bill will be able to sue the carrier, or the tour operator, for up to NIS 10,000 as of August 16, 2012.
The benefits conferred by the bill depend on the duration of the delay, or on how far in advance notice of the cancelation was provided.
Benefits begin from food and drink and can include a hotel, transport to the hotel, communications access and financial compensation.
