CAL Cargo Air Lines announced the purchase of a 747-400ER (extended range) freighter, manufactured in 2007.

A statement issued by the company noted that CAL’s upgraded fleet, which includes two new freighters with the addition of this 747-400ERF, will support CAL’s specialization in non-standard cargo such as oversize, dangerous goods, cool chain and live animals.

With these new freighters, CAL is able to fly non-stop from its Liege hub to Latin America and Asia Pacific.

Offer Gilboa, owner and chairman of the CAL Group, noted: “We expect the freighter to be ready for service in November, giving CAL a competitive advantage by transporting cargo to the greatest possible distances around the globe.”

Gilboa added: “We clearly defined a corporate strategy designed to strengthen our company and enable growth, and this new aircraft is central to achieving our goals.”

With the lowest operating cost per ton-mile in the industry, the 747-400ER Freighter  improves on what is already the most capable cargo transport in the industry. The 747-400ER Freighter has a maximum takeoff weight of 910,000 pounds (412,770 kg).

This takeoff weight increase allows the 747-400ER Freighter to fly an additional 525 nautical miles (972 km). It can carry an additional 22,000 pounds (9,980 kg) of payload on long-range flights at maximum takeoff weight.
