Turboprop maker ATR, a joint venture between Airbus and Finmeccanica, is to be the launch customer for Elbit’s latest wearable heads-up display technology.

Elbit Systems Ltd. and the regional turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR announced the signature of an agreement for integrating ClearVision Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) with the SKYLENS wearable display onboard the new ATR-600 series.

The system can also be offered as a retrofit to other ATR ‘-600’ aircraft already in service. Enhancing flight safety, the new system will also contribute to the operational availability of turboprop aircraft, often required to operate from airfields lacking sophisticated infrastructure.

The “SKYLENS” system , worn like ski goggles, displays high-resolution information, images and video on a visor worn by the pilot, enabling, aircraft to take-off and land in low-visibility conditions. The new system will be installed onto new 600 series ATR42, a 42 seat turboprop regional airliner and ATR72, a turbo prop aircraft capable of carrying around 70 passengers, as well as being offered as a retrofit option.

The equipment manufacturer confirmed that they expected to receive certification for the new display system in 2017. Elbit Systems Ltd. is an international high technology company engaged in a wide range of defense, homeland security and commercial programs throughout the world.
