Israel's Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) reported that ten foreign airlines have submitted requests in recent weeks to operate flights from Israel Ben-Gurion International Airport to a variety of new destinations following the implementation of the open skies policy.
The ICAA's report noted that among the foreign airlines there are names unknown to the Israeli travelling public. They include the Spanish Volotea, a low cost airline established by Barcelona-based Alaeo S.L., the British Thomson Airways, the world's largest charter airline,
Ten Airways, a charter airline, France-based Europe Airpost, based at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, Romanian airline Blue Air a Romanian low-cost airline and a Portuguese airline White Airways, which seeks to operate flights from Portugal due to the expected growth in Israelis' vacations in the country this coming summer. Turkish airline Corendon, a low cost carrier based in Antalya, has requested to offer flights to Bodrum and Dalaman in light of Israelis' return to Turkey's holiday resorts and flights are also planned to Ivory Coast and the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania.
Several other airlines have asked to expand their activity from new destinations, including the Spanish Air Europa, (Air Europa Líneas Aéreas, S.A.U.) the third largest airline in Spain after Iberia and Vueling, the Dutch Transavia Airlines, a low cost airline, easyJet and Wizz Air.
