El Al Israel airline has chosen Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000, high bypass turbofan engine to drive 15 of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The Trent 1000 which entered into service in late 2011 is the only engine optimized to power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family of aircraft.
The engine was selected as launch engine when the Boeing 787-8 aircraft entered service in 2011 and again when the 787-9 aircraft entered service in 2014. The Trent 1000 delivers the best through life fuel burn on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and provides all the thrust the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family may require, capable of providing up to 78,000lb thrust.
The engine will power the 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft variants. El Al is also considering entering into TotalCare® long term service support for the engines. Rolls-Royce chief customer officer Dominic Horwood said: “We are proud that such a valued customer as El Al has selected the Trent 1000. This continues a long and close relationship with El Al and we are delighted they have recognised the economic advantages the Trent 1000 delivers.”
The relationship between Rolls-Royce and El Al first started more than 50 years ago, when Rolls-Royce powered the Boeing 707 aircraft and later the Boeing 757 carrier. Today El Al operates six Boeing 777-200ER aircraft powered by Trent 800 engines.
