The Russian Aeroflot airline company which currently celebrating 5 years of operations in Israel, is adding flights on the Moscow and St. Petersburg routes to and from Israel and soon will be flying 37 times a week.
The increase service follows the cessation of service from TransAero, whose license was suspended in Russia, and also reflects the large number of Russian immigrants and increased trade and tourist traffic.
Aeroflot received last month the approval of the Israel Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority to take over Transaero’s flights between Israel and Russia. Transaero, Russia’s second largest airline, operated three flights a day between Moscow and Ben-Gurion International Airport.
The Israel Airports Authority reported that between January and September of this year, Transaero flew 183,000 passengers to or from Israel, a 6.6% increase over the comparable period last year. Aeroflot has a much larger presence at Ben-Gurion Airport, with 353,000 passengers during the same period this year.
