Ukrainian AeroSvit Airlines (Kiev) issued earlier this month the following statement: AeroSvit Airlines has filed a petition with the Kyiv (Kiev) Regional Commercial Court to initiate bankruptcy proceedings for the purpose of commencing reorganization procedure, restoring solvency and ensuring fulfillment of commitments to its creditors in full.
Last week the Airlines cancelled several flights leaving many passengers, including Israelis, stranded in various countries and others worried about losing payments for reservations.
The Ukrainian airline was the seventh largest carrier at Ben Gurion International Airport in 2012 and was used by many Israelis for follow-on flights from Kiev to destinations in North America and the Far East.
According to the Israel Airports Authority, Aerosvit carried over 290,000 passengers to and from Ben Gurion Airport in January-November 2012, 15% more than in the corresponding period of 2011.
