Six El Al flights were cancelled last week at the last minute, including the popular Flight 001 to JFK, NY and Flight 027 to Newark, NJ, as well as the Hong Kong line, after El Al pilots called a Wildcat Strike.
Pilots union denied the strike action stating, "We aren't on strike. The company has grounded 23 pilots over age 65, and the result is a severe shortage of pilots.
Even without the age problem, El Al has a permanent shortage of pilots, and management, which is unable to man flights, is finding it convenient to report that the pilots are striking in order to avoid claims from their customers."
