British low-cost carrier easy.Jet has officially applied to the Israeli aviation authorities for permission to operate flights between Tel Aviv and Amsterdam in the winter of 2015.
easyJet, Europe's leading airline, operating on over 600 routes across more than 30 countries with a fleet of over 200 Airbus aircraft, did not say how many flights it wants to operate each week but it is understood that it wants to launch the route in the early winter.
easyJet already operates flights to 20 destinations from Amsterdam, which it recently expanded into one of its hub bases. Right now, flight options from Amsterdam to Tel Aviv are limited to KLM and El Al, with summer low-cost flights operated by Transavia.
easyJet is currently the second most active foreign airline in Israel after Turkish Airlines. Since the beginning of the year, the company has carried some 194,000 passengers from Israel to different destinations in Europe, a 24% growth from the first four months of 2014. In the past year, the company carried some 382,000 passengers between Israel and Europe.
easyJet’s already operates nine routes from Ben Gurion airport. The low-cost carrier will fly more than half a million passengers into and out of Israel in 2015 on 37 weekly departures to London (Gatwick), London (Luton), Manchester, Geneva, Basel, Rome, Milan, Berlin, and Paris.
