Low-cost UK carrier easyJet plc inaugurated its Tel Aviv to Berlin Schoenefeld (SXF) route last week.

easyJet will operate three-four weekly flights between the Israeli and German cities. There are currently four airlines operating on the Berlin-Tel Aviv route – El Al, Air Berlin, Lufthansa and Israir.

easyJet's activity on the line will increase the number of flights by some 20% and will likely boost competition over ticket prices. easyJet is also due to begin three weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Milan next month and Tel Aviv and London, Gatwick in April.

This will bring to 34 the number of weekly flights operated by easyJet from Ben Gurion Airport to Western European destinations: Luton (11 flights), Gatwick (3 flights) and Manchester (2 flights) in the UK; Basel (4 flights) and Geneva (5 flights) Switzerland; Berlin (4 flights) Germany: and Milan (3 flights), and Rome (2 flights) Italy.
