Ben Gurion Airport Reports Traffic Record

An all-time record was due to be noted last week in Ben Gurion Airport, with over 500 landings and take-offs, and close to 70 thousand travelers.

The holiday season has always been considered one of the busiest periods for Ben Gurion Airport, however, last Sunday the traffic was especially active.

No less than 521 planes will be passing through the airport today, breaking an all-time record of landings and take-offs. 263 planes were expected to land in the airport, while 258 flights were expected to take-off, causing a planned traffic of close to 70 thousand passengers.

Traffic increased during the afternoon hours as over 20 flights were backed up, reportedly due to air traffic congestion over Cyprus. Air traffic control officials in Cyprus report the day was a record-breaker for Mideast travel, not just to Israel.

By the end of the holiday season, over 1.4 million travelers will have passed through Ben Gurion's gates. Their leading destinations are Greece, Italy, the United States, Germany, Russia and France.
