The former commander of the Israeli navy, Rear-Admiral (ret) Eliezer “Chiney” Marom was nominated by the Israeli Government to the post of chairman of the Israeli Airports Authority.

 

Marom who served the Israeli army for 38 years graduated Israel Navy Advanced Command Course and the National Defense College. He participated in the U.S. Navy Senior International Defense Management Program and Harvard Business School. Marom was granted a MA in Social Sciences from Haifa University.

 

Rear- Admiral Marom was the IDF representative at the U.S. Joint Forces Command. He was also the Defense and Armed Forces Attache in Singapore.

 

Over the course of his career, Marom has held most of the senior positions in the Israeli Navy. Marom commanded Israel’s navy from 2007 to 2011, a period that included winter 2008’s Operation Cast Lead against Hamas in Gaza, and the 2010 interception of the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish vessel seeking to break the security blockade on Gaza.
