The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) has approved 89 weekly low-cost flights, double the number of flights last summer, from Ben Gurion Airport's Terminal 1, starting this summer.

The move will double the number of flights last summer, and up from 56 weekly flights from Terminal 1 in the winter.

Operation costs at Terminal 1, which was the main terminal until 10 years ago, are lower than at the main Terminal 3. Terminal 1 operates under certain limitations. The terminal is open daily from 06:00h to 22:00h and there are no takeoffs before 9 am and after 11 pm.

The carriers using Terminal 1 operate low-cost flights to Europe. Furthermore, wide-bodied jet cannot use Terminal 1.
