Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) has filed a complaint with the United Nations' International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) over Israel's construction of a new airport at Timna, north of Eilat in the south of Israel.
The CARC complained that the airport is not compliant with the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation and specified public safety requirements to be followed for new airport constructions.
Jordanian minister of transportation Lina Shabib said that the ICAO plan to vote on Jordan's submission.
The Jordanians claim that the new Israeli Timna airport is too close to Jordan’s King Hussein international airport, located near the coastal city of Aqaba. This, according to the Jordanians, could affect aerial frequencies of the regional hub and lead to accidents.
The King Hussein international airport is considered to be relatively small, with very little air traffic. The site for the Israeli airport is 20 kilometers from the city of Eilat, and less than 10 kilometers from the Jordanian city of Aqaba.
