An unseasonal dangerous sandstorm hit Israel, Lebanon and Syria, covering the region with a blanket of yellow dust on Tuesday.

In Syria visibility dropped last Monday to almost zero. The storm also hit Jordan where schools around the country shut down or cut their days short.

In Israel the Arkia and Israir airlines cancelled their flights within Israel, and Eilat Airport was shut down.

Arkia said it was providing bus service to and from Eilat and that it would reimburse travelers for the cost of their airline tickets. The Environmental Protection Ministry is warning people across Israel to beware of the dust storm that has enveloped the country.
