By the end of last week it was made public that the Antitrust Commissioner Ronit Kan was preparing a drastic change in the Israeli aviation sector placing the aviation industry under antitrust supervision.
Until last week's move the aviation sector was exempt from Israeli antitrust rules, though a recent change in the law gave the commissioner power to change that, and Commissioner Kan acted on the matter quickly.

The intention, according to the Commissioner, is to reduce the possibility of forming cartels, increase competition and lower ticket prices.
It is understood that not all aviation agreements between Israeli and foreign airlines will be required to receive antitrust commission approval, however certain types of agreements, including code-sharing agreements between Israeli and foreign airlines, will need to be examined and approved.
