Arkia Airlines Ltd. Israel's second largest airline operating scheduled, domestic and international services as well as charter flights to destinations in Western Europe and across the Mediterranean, launched last week its new "Arkia Express" program - Israel's first low-cost air service.

The Express Flight ticket does not include luggage transportation service and does not include seat assignment, drinks and snacks on board the flight.

The upgrading of the service components is possible on the internet site and at the check-in counters for an additional payment and subject to the regulations. The service was launched with one-way fares to Paris and Amsterdam, beginning at US$99 for a reservation purchased online three months in advance.

The tickets are offered for flights departing Israel beginning in November 2. Online sales began last week.

In a press release the company noted that the one-way fare will rise to $129, then $149 and $169 as seats run out.

As a low-cost service, Arkia Express offers no food or beverages, seat selection, or luggage handling, for which extra charges will apply.

A 15-kg. suitcase will cost an extra US$15 if ordered online together with the reservation, or $30 at the check-in counter.
