The Israeli Transportation Ministry has announced that Arkia Israel Airlines will soon begin flight operations from Eilat Airport (LLET/ETH) to Pulkovo Airport (ULLI/LED) in St. Petersburg, Russia.
This makes Arkia the first Israeli airline to launch regular flights along this route.
Bilateral transport agreements will enable a Russia airlines to fly to Eilat as well.
Transport Minister Yisrael Katz said that Arkiawill help increase the number of tourists to Israel from Russia. Katz told Israel Radio that the initiative was meant to encourage and expand "the scope of competition and tourism" in Israel.
Eilat is a tourist city located in southern Israel. It was not specified when services will commence, but it will mark the first international flights to operate from Eilat’s airport.
