C.A.L in a bid to operate cargo flights to Moscow

The request was backed by increasing demand for cargo services to Russia which the company cannot satisfy since it had no flying rights to Russia
 
On the eve of the opening of a new round of talks between Israel and Russia on a new aviation agreement the CAL (cargo airlines) company said it had lodged a request to operate schedule cargo flights to Moscow.
 
In a press release the company said that the request was backed by increasing demand for cargo services to Russia which the company cannot satisfy since it had no flying rights to Russia.
 
CAL is likely to be awarded the cargo route and will operate a weekly flight.
 
Ministry of Transport spokesman said last week that the goal of the bilateral aviation talks, which will be held between 20 – 21 of August is to allow more airlines to fly on the main Tel Aviv-Moscow route, such that two companies from each country would operate the route, thereby increasing competition and lowering fairs.
 
El Al's agreement with the government prevents other regular airlines from competing, so only charter flights or cargo flights can be added.
 
CAL has a 20% market share of cargo passing through Ben Gurion Airport.
