El Al Cargo announced last week its decision to leave Amsterdam/Schiphol for Liטge Airport, where the company's night flights had already been moved to.

The move will take effect as from October 6th this year. The decision was made mainly because of the rising landing fees at Schiphol. El Al's Boeing 747-200 are cat.3 aircraft and have to pay 140% of basic landing fee.

Liטge Airport also called Liטge-Bierset, is an important cargo airport in Belgium. It was at the end of 2007 the 8th biggest cargo airport in Europe  and the 38th biggest in the world.

Liטge is located in the centre of the golden triangle Paris - Amsterdam - Frankfurt that handle 66 % of the European freight.

Doron Maor, head of El Al cargo division, said that the move will enable El Al to offer more flexible services and better flights schedule.

El Al also noted that Customs services as well as veterinary inspections operate 24 hours, 7 days.

Amsterdam/Schiphol will continue to serve El Al Cargo as European cargo collection point.
