Aviation circles in Israel said last week that El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. is close to signing a contract with Boeing Co. to lease six or seven planes from Boeing Co. in the five years period 2011-15.

It is understood that El Al chairman Mr. Israel Borovich and CEO Mr. Haim Romano had reached an agreement to this effect with Boeing representatives.

It is understood that the decision to lease the aircraft was made following the cancellation of option El Al had to buy eight Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

It is also understood that El Al management is seriously re-considering to keep two Boeing 767s which were originally due for sale this summer. The company is about to announce that it would keep the two planes after receiving delivery of two Boeing 777s. The 777s will fly to London, Paris, New York and Far Eastern destinations.

El Al will use the two 767s on its Moscow, Bucharest, Poland and other east European routes.
