El Al cancels direct flights to Sao Paulo, Brazil

Due to high feul costs EL AL has annouced that its three weekly flights to Sao Paulo will be canceled

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. which has operated, during the last two years, three weekly flights between Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport / GRU and Tel Aviv - Ben Gurion International / TLV, announced last week that it is canceling its direct flights to Sao Paulo as from November 10, 2011.

In a statement to the press, El Al said that the route was being cancelled due to the high cost of jet fuel following global price rises in fuel.

The announcement, made by El Al President and CEO, Eliezer Shkedi came two and a half years after introducing the direct flights to Brazil.

Shkedi noted that "The sharp and ongoing rise in the price of fuel and high security costs and operational costs, have made us re-evaluate every El Al flight. Even after the flights to Sao Paulo are halted, El Al will continue to offer flights to South America through follow-on flights and cooperation with foreign airlines."
