El Al: claim was submitted against 38 airlines at New York Court into alleged price coordination

Last December El Al and other airlines were requested by the European Commission to furnish the EU competition authorities with details concerning surcharges calculations for fuel

El Al Airlines announced last week it had received a civil claim which had been lodged at Court for the Eastern District of New York into alleged price coordination by airlines.

In February 2006 the European Commission, US and South Korean competition authorities conducted dawn raids on airlines around the world over concerns about the way in which airlines imposed surcharges for fuel and security.

Last December El Al and other airlines were requested by the European Commission to furnish the EU competition authorities with details concerning surcharges calculations for fuel and security.

This means that if El Al and 38 other airlines are found to have infringed the competition rules set out by the US antitrust laws, the companies involved could be fined heavily.
