The company will continue to offer cargo service in the belly of passenger flights. Maor: Closing of freighter operations to Asia would better the company's profitability and  improve service

As part of the company's efficiency program, El Al cargo advised its customers it was considering the operation of freighters to destinations in Asia.

In a press release issued by Mr. Doron Maor, Vice President of Cargo Operations for EL AL Israel Airlines, Maor noted that the closing of freighter operations to Asia would not only better the company's profitability but also improve service level to customers on the routes to Europe and North America.

Maor, who oversees the airline's day-to-day cargo operations as well as all cargo-related sales and marketing activities, said the company wants to improve its costs structure and its ability to compete.

Yair Bitton, El Al's Cargo Director, said that "no exact date has yet been agreed to end freight operations however the company has decided to gradually reduce the freighter frequencies to Asia and meanwhile will  try and find alternatives which will be presented to customers. Once alternatives are traced the company will end its freighter service to Asia”.

The company noted however that it will continue to offer cargo service in the belly of passenger flights from Asians to Israel.
