El Al Israel Airlines said last Wednesday it will raise fares as from 29th March by USD$12 per leg on long-haul flights and by USD$7 on flights to Europe due to soaring fuel prices.
Surcharges for short flights to destinations such as Cairo, Istanbul, Athens, Cyprus and eastern Europe (Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Prague) will rise by USD$2.
Yoav Levy, El Al's deputy general manager for commerce and aviation relations said that "Given the continued rise in the price of jet fuel around the world, we are forced to bring flight prices in line with other global carriers". Levy noted that jet fuel prices around the world had jumped by 41% since the beginning of the year.
