El Al’s cargo boss resigns

Mr. Danny Shapira the head of El-Al’s cargo department had surprisingly decided to resign his post. The decision was accepted by El Al’s managing director who thanked Mr. Danny Shapira for his most valuable contribution and services, which he rendered over the years, to the cargo department in particular and to the company in general.

His surprised decision created some unrest among local cargo agents whose chairman Mr. Amir Shani addressed El Al’s managing director asking not to accept Mr. Shapira’s sudden resignation.

In a statement issued by El Al the company said that the decision to resign was taken after it was found that that Mr. Shapira  received, from a client, entry tickets to an international sporting event.

El Al’s managing director said that although there was no suspicion that any benefit was given to the client in return for the tickets, it was regarded very seriously by the company’s board of directors.

Mr. Amir Shani the Chairman of the Israeli International Freight Forwarders Association said in a  statement that Mr. Danny Shapira is one of the best regarded air cargo professionals in the industry and his resignation will be against El Al’s interests.
