El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. retired last week its oldest plane, a Boeing 767-200ER, which acquired 95,000 flight hours since entering service in March 1984.

The 767-200ER extended-range variant which is the extended range version of the 767-200 baseline model, was first delivered to El Al in 1984. It became the first 767 to complete a nonstop transatlantic journey, and broke the flying distance record for twinjet airliners several times.

The plane operated on El Al's routes to North America, Europe, South Africa, and the Far East.

El Al is due to retire its remaining 767s and 757s aircraft soon. El Al currently operates 40 planes, 14 of them through leases.

El Al CEO & President Elyezer Shkedy said in a press release "El Al decided to retire its older Boeing 757s and 767s, which have served it for many years. The airline will invest in the newest planes for its passengers. We recently bought four new 737-900s, which will soon join the fleet."
