Jet fuel costs have risen by some 20% since its last update as the price of oil has jumped. Surcharges will rise by an average of 5%

El Al Israel Airlines said last Wednesday it will raise its fuel surcharges as from July 14 by up to USD$50 due to continued increases in jet fuel prices.

In a statement issued by the company it noted that surcharges will rise by an average of 5%, or USD$20 for short-haul flights, USD$30 for medium-haul and USD$50 for long distances, El Al said.

El Al, like most airlines, has raised fares and fuel surcharges numerous times this year. Rami Levy, El Al's Vice President for Commercial and Aviation ties, said: "The increase is minimal, and has become necessary with the rising price of fuel." He added that the airline's price adjustment is considerably less than the rate of increase in the price of oil.

In early May, fares rose an average of 6.5% while fuel surcharges were boosted by USD$40 per flight segment. Similar moves were taken in January, February and March.

El Al said jet fuel costs have risen by some 20% since its last update as the price of oil has jumped.
