Georgia and Israel signed new air service agreement

The agreement will gradually integrate the respective markets, strengthen cooperation and offer new opportunities for industry, including airlines, and consumers.
 
A new air service agreement was signed on August 6 between Georgia and Israel in Tbilisi. The agreement was signed by Vera Kobalia the Minister of Economy and Sustainable development of Georgia and Israel Katz Israel Minister of Transport & Road Safety.
 
The agreement will gradually integrate the respective markets, strengthen cooperation and offer new opportunities for industry, including airlines, and consumers.
 
According to the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the new agreement significantly simplifies regulations within the civil aviation sectors of the two countries. The agreement, in particular will enable Georgian and Israeli air carriers to expand flights between countries, improve-service quality and reduce travel fares. As a result of the new agreement, the two sides will be able to operate 10 weekly flights. Each side will be able to nominate three air carriers to operate the route and to nominate an air cargo carrier.
 
Georgian Minister of Economy noted that the new agreement “ will create additional opportunities for other air companies to enter our market, to create competition and more appropriate prices,” adding that “it will also boost tourism between the countries.”
 
Georgian Airways, the flag carrier of the Republic of Georgia, with its headquarters in Tbilisi, is a privately-owned airline operating services from Georgia to destinations mainly in Europe and Western Asia. Its main base is Tbilisi International Airport. The company operates six weekly flights to Israel and Arkia Israeli Airlines Ltd operates two weekly flights to Tbilisi. In addition, the officials of the two countries considered the removal of the visa regime that exists between Georgia and Israel.
