The development program for the new defense system will begin in early 2008, and will replace the system now being installed
The Israeli political-security cabinet approved last week the development of a new anti aircraft missile protection system, for installation on Israeli civil planes.
In a statement issued by the cabinet press secretary, the government note that the development program for the new defense system will begin in early 2008, and will replace the system now being installed. Once the system is approved, Israel will be the first nation in the world to reinforce its commercial airline fleet against missile attacks.
The decision means that an immediate budget allocation will be made for this particular purpose.
The political-security cabinet also discussed various aviation security matters in Israeli airspace and for Israeli planes around the world.
