Following discussions held between Minister of Tourism Avraham Hirchson and the heads of Delta Air Lines it had been agreed last week that the US carrier would resume flights to Israel after a five-year interval.
Delta is the third largest airline in the US. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport it was noted that the carrier would operate a daily Tel-Aviv - Atlanta flight from April 2006. The resumption of daily flights means thatan additional 100,000 seats will be placed annually on flights between Israel and the US.
At present, the Israel-US route is served only by El Al and Continental Airlines.
