Israel Aircraft Industries' Commercial Aircraft Group announced last week that it had received contract from Vought Aircraft Industries for manufacturing assemblies on Boeing's 787 Dreamliner Programme.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features. It will bring the economics of large jet transports to the middle of the market, using 20 percent less fuel than any other airplane of its size.

The multi-year contract, valued, according to IAI, at approximately $500 million from Vought Aircraft Industries to manufacture assemblies on the prestigious 787 Dreamliner passenger aircraft programme. The award runs for the production lifetime of the 787. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, expected to enter service in 2008, is a highly fuel-efficient airplane designed to serve routes between 3,500 and 8,500 nautical miles (6,500 and 15,400 Km).

The B787's airframe will be made of lightweight and robust composite materials and advanced alloys using innovative manufacturing methods. According to the recently signed contract the IAI/Commercial Aircraft Group's Production Division will manufacture assemblies for the door surrounds and passenger and cargo floor. The Group's Engineering Division will design the assemblies

Boeing announced at the end of last year that the Peoples' Republic of China placed orders for 60 of the airplanes. The airplanes would be delivered to six Chinese carriers -- Air China , China Eastern, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Shanghai Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
