According to figures released last week by Israel Airports Authority (IAA), El Al Israel Airlines flew last year more passengers than any other Israeli airline.
 
The figures published by the IAA show that in 2005 El Al flew 3,602,285 passengers, far ahead of Arkia's 366,182 and Israir's 251,310.
 
The IAA also noted that of the foreign flag airlines operating to and from israel, Lufthansa carried 365,748 in 2005, followed by Continental Airlines with 316,907. British Airways was next with 224,360, ahead of Swiss with 224,360 and Alitalia 200,013.
 
Earlier The Israel Airport Authority ( IAA) announced that 8.5 million passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport in 2005, 11% more than in 2004.

The number of incoming passengers rose last year by 11% to 4.25 million, and the number of outgoing passengers rose by 10.8% to 4.26 million.

The IAA also noted that in 2005 Ben Gurion Airport handled 62,300 flights, 5.3% more than in 2004 and 16.7% more than in 2003.
