The proposed facility will replace the present facility in the city of Eilat

Israel's Vice Premier office announced last week that Vice Premier Shimon Peres and Jordanian King Abdullah II, agreed in a meeting held in Petra, Jordan, on several regional ventures, including an international airport in Aqaba, with Israeli and Jordanian terminals.
 
The proposed facility will replace the present facility in the city of Eilat.
 
According to the announcement, the international airport will serve airlines flying to and from the southern holiday resorts in Jordan and Israel.
 
Peres and King Abdullah agreed that work on the new international airport will begin immediately.

It was also known that during the Second Petra Conference of Nobel Laureates and the Nobel Laureates Initiative, which opened last week Israel's prime minister Olmert told Jordanian King Abdullah II, that he agreed to move the Eilat Airport, and merge it with the international airport that will be built in Aqaba.
