Israeli Shippers: no operation rules in air cargo ground handling sector

This is 100 days before entering a competitive market structure. Claim Minister of Transport should accept full responsibility for the fiasco
 
An emergency meeting was held last week at the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce in order to call upon the Ministry of Transport to accept responsibility for the chaos expected to take place, once the Israeli air cargo ground handling sector goes into competition.
 
The meeting which was called by Mr. Amir Shani, chairman of the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce's Ways and Means committee and head of the Amit customs clearing and logistics group, sparked a great deal of discomfort among participants.
 
The meeting, which was held in the presence of Mr. Ami Segal, head of the customs directorate, Mr. Yechzkel Daskal, director general of the Tel Aviv Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Alex Chen, director of business development at the Israel Airport Authority, and representatives of the airline industry, cargo terminals, freight forwarders and couriers called upon the Transport Ministry to co-ordinate urgent meetings among the parties concerned to formulate agreed set of rules for the new era.
 
Mr. Shani expressed frustration from the lack of government involvement and lack of government leadership in creating the necessary set of rules for the new era of competition among the three air cargo terminals.
 
Shani listed a number of yet unanswered questions regarding export and import procedures noting that as far as he could judge, the costs of services to the exporting and importing communities would go up rather than go down.
