Israir reportedly decided to suspend its New York flights because of escalating fuel prices and in expectation of a drop in the number of passengers
Low-cost Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd. flights on the New York-Tel Aviv route will come to an end on September 13.
Israir said it was suspending the flights because the route is not economical, and it promised it would find alternatives for passengers who have booked seats after that date.
Israir obtained designated carrier status on the Tel Aviv-New York route after a long struggle against the Ministry of Transport and El Al Israel Airlines Ltd.
The cutoff date comes two weeks before the Rosh HaShanah-Sukkot high holiday period, when planes generally are full.
Israir reportedly decided to suspend its New York flights because of escalating fuel prices and in expectation of a drop in the number of passengers to and from the US because of the weakness of the US dollar.
