EL AL, Israel's National Airline, accepted last week the first of two new Boeing 777 aircraft that will be used on the United States/Israel route.

The plane bears the name of "Sderot", and is scheduled to take off from New York with 10 children from that rocket-plagued southern city who were vacationing in the United States, and whom El Al invited to enjoy the 777's maiden flight.

The second 777 will be named "Kiryat Shmona" and is scheduled to arrive in Israel at the end of August.

These long-range planes will be the flagship aircraft in the EL AL fleet flying to Israel from destinations in North America and the Far East.

Currently, EL AL is renewing its entire 777 and 747-400 fleet to meet the high standards of the new aircraft and to create an even better flight experience for passengers.

In September of 2005, the EL AL Board of Directors approved the $250 million purchase of these two new Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

EL AL also invested more than $20 million to upgrade seats and in-flight entertainment systems on existing EL AL 777 and 747-400 aircraft.
