Both countries will now be allowed to designate one airline on the Tel Aviv-Lieg route in addition to the existing services operating to Brussels

Mr. Gideon Siterman, director general of the Transportation Ministry, announced last week that a new air service agreement had been signed with the government of Belgium.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, Siterman said that the agreement had been signed by the heads of the two countries' civil aviation authorities Mr. Andre Van Hove from Belgium  and Mr. Udi Zohar from Israel.

According to the newly signed air service agreement, both countries will now be allowed to designate one airline on the Tel Aviv-Lieg route in addition to the existing services operating to Brussels.

The agreement also allows airlines to offer up to 20 weekly flights (10 to each direction) between the two countries, compared to 14 weekly flights at present.

The agreement also provide Israeli airlines, CAL & El Al, which operate freighters, with the right to exercise "fifth freedom right" and accept cargo at Belgium for destinations such as China and Japan.

It is understood that the new aviation deal is meant to encourage competition in the civil aviation market.
