Swiss International Air Lines announced last week that Israel's Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) and the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA) had agreed that the Swiss airliner- "Swiss International" would operate all of its fourteen weekly flights to Zurich, according to the company’s pre-planned schedule. The company operates two daily flights from Israel to Switzerland.
Following the long awaited agreement "Swiss International" gave a statement that it decided to withdrow its petition to Israel's High Court of Justice.
The Swiss airline together with Lufthansa & Alitalia petitioned the High court of Justice against the ICAA controversial plan to cut the number of seats on their flights. After the three company filed petitions, the High Court of Justice issued an injunction until final hearing on the matter.
The ICCA decision to reduce the number of seats on foreign airlines’ flights was clearly designed to protect El Al Israel Airlines.
El Al claimed to the ICCA that "Swiss International", "Alitalia" & "Lufthansa" were offering flights from Tel Aviv Airport to their home bases at dumping prices, and tickets from there to the US and the Far East at regular fares.
"Swiss International" had achieved 95% capacity utilization during August , 60% of the passengers were tourists.
During the winter "Swiss International" will offer two daily flights to and from Israel.
A 05:30 flight from Tel Aviv (A320), landing at Zurich at 09:00 local time.
A 16:05 flight from Tel Aviv (A340) , landing at Zurich at 19:20 local time.
