The proposed Tel Aviv route would be the longest nonstop segment in the US Airways network
US Airways announced last week that it would ask for regulatory approval to add nonstop service between Philadelphia and Tel Aviv, Israel. The airline will offer one daily nonstop flight.
The proposed Tel Aviv route would be the longest (more than 5,700 miles, 9,000 kilometers each way) nonstop segment in the US Airways network. Longer-range Airbus A330-200 aircraft set for delivery in spring 2009 will operate on the route. If approved, Tel Aviv will be the 21st trans-Atlantic destination for US Airways from its Philadelphia hub
The flights from Philadelphia will take off at 9:15 P.M., Philadelphia time, and land in Tel Aviv at 3:15 P.M. Israel time. In the other direction, the flights will leave Ben-Gurion International Airport at 11:50 P.M. and land in Philadelphia at 5:10 A.M local time. The airline noted early last year that it named India, Israel, Russia and Turkey to the list of countries to which it would like to start flying nonstop from Philadelphia in the next few years.
