The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS ) reported last week that at the end of 2003 and the beginning of 2004, Israel had 383,000 businesses, including companies, self-employed persons, partnerships, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and local authorities.
According to the CBS, half of the businesses, 193,000, had no employees.
The other 189,000 businesses had at least one, and 140,000 of those had at most four employees.
Only 2,549, 1% of businesses, had more than 100 employees. The business sector employed 1.6 million Israelis.
