Statistics published last week by the economic department of the Ministry of agriculture showed that agricultural production in 2004 reached an all-time record of NIS 17 billion, 5% more than in 2003.

Exports of agricultural produce in 2004 grew 25% to NIS 3.6 billion, compared with 2003. According to ministry spokesman, the leading export branches were potatoes and flowers.

In a press release the ministry pointed out that the largest agricultural sectors in 2004 were:
Vegetables NIS 3.6 billion, Poultry, including eggs, meat, and stuffed fowl NIS 3 billion, Fruit NIS 2.4 billion, Milk NIS 2 billion, Flowers - NIS 1.3 billion, Field crops NIS 1 billion, Citrus fruit NIS 700 million, Fresh beef NIS 560 million, Fish NIS 425 million.
 
The ministry pointed out that pig farming in Israel expanded in recent years, reaching over NIS 200 million.
