Agrexco noted in a statement to the press that first shipment of potatoes will leave Israel on November and will continue till July. Nicola ,Dita,Vivaldi, Marable, M.Peer and red Sherry are just a sample of the varieties that take part in the potato export celebration.
Potatoes are grown in the southern part of Israel, in the Negev, around an area of 2400 hectares which yields a produce of 105,000 tonnes.
Nuki Noifeld, Product Manager in Agrexco, informed that forecast for this season is 100,000 tonnes, a rise of 20% from last season.
Agrexco attaches great importance to food safety and its potatoes growers, as well as growers of other produce, are committed to meeting the most stringent international standards including Eurep GAP. The potatoes undergo a thorough scrutiny before leaving Israel and once again in a sorting station in the U.K. or in France, depending on their destination.
According to Agrexco the UK will receive the first shipment of new potatoes, Nicola and M.Peer, freshly picked from the fields, considerably small and without skin. Next in line are Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Greece, Belgium and Poland.
