For the second year running exports of Golan Druze apples to Syria are set to begin this week
According to Israel Farmers' Federation Director Giora Sela, following last year's successful export, Golan Druze apple growers would ship this year over 10,000 tons of fresh produce.
Sela added that this year's export was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministries of Defense and Agriculture and Rural Development. He also noted that exports to Syria would help reduce the large surplus of apples on the local market created by the closure of the Karni Terminal to the Gaza strip.
In a press release Sela thanked the parties that were involved and noted that apple deal was highly beneficial for all parties. The Golan Druze will have a good income from their apples while Syrian consumers will enjoy high quality apples.
