April 09’ private car sales - 52% drop

Since January 2009 the is a 44% drop of new cars deliveries. The main reason: the ongoing slump in the leasing industry

8,190 new private cars were delivered during April 2009, less than half the number delivered in April 2008 (17,142). During April 449 commercial vehicles were delivered, a drop of 64% compared to the parallel.

45,684 new vehicles were delivered in January-April 2009, 44% fewer than in the corresponding period of last year. 39,099 private cars were delivered in January-April, also down 40%.

The motor vehicles importers association said that one reason for the drop was fewer business days in April this year compared with last year.

However, the main reason was the ongoing slump in the leasing industry as companies struggle to obtain financing for the purchase of new cars.

Mazda was again the top-selling brand in January-April, with 7,295 deliveries, 46% fewer than during the corresponding period.

Hyundai was in second place, with 5,822 deliveries, down 28%. Toyota was in third place, with 4,767 deliveries, down 42%. Ford was in fourth place, with 3,475 deliveries, down 18%.
