Customs employees have been carrying out their daily tasks despite Grad rocket attacks. Mr. Polak: siren create some delays but in general the Customs Authority has performed well
Hamas' Grad rockets hit last week Ashdod city, with the second largest Israeli port in the south, causing severe damage to buildings. The terrorists are using 122-mm Grad-type Katyusha missiles, of the type that can reach a range of up to 40 kilometers.
Home to some 207,000 residents, it is also operating the nation's second-largest port, accounting for 60% of Israel's imported goods and an important regional industrial center.
Ashdod's port Customs Authority, an essential link to Israel's foreign trade, has been operating normally despite the attacks.
Eli Polak, director general of the Customs Authority at Ashdod, noted in an interview that Customs employees have been carrying out their daily tasks despite Grad rocket attacks.
Polak noted however that the ‘Color Red’ incoming air raid alert system where employees have been instructed by Home Front Command to find shelter within 45 seconds of hearing the siren create some delays but in general the Customs Authority has performed well.
