Israel's Consumer Price Index rose in August 2012 by 1%, to 106.2 points compared with 105.1 points at the end of July, according to data published last week by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
 
The CBS said that increases were especially noted in the price of cigarettes (14.2%), fruits and vegetables (7.9%), culture and entertainment (2.0%), transportation (1.8%), housing (1.1%), food (0.9%) and furniture (0.6%).
 
Decreases in prices were noted in clothing and footwear (6.0%) and communications (1.1%). The CPI has risen by 2.1% in the year to date. The index excluding fresh produce has risen 1.9%; the index excluding energy has risen 1.7%; and the index excluding housing has risen 1.6%.
Over the twelve months to August 2012, the CPI rose 1.9%.
