Belarus and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding in scientific and technology cooperation. The signing was held during the third session meeting of joint Belarus-Israel committee for trade and economic cooperation in Minsk on 4 September.

The memorandum was signed by the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus and Israel’s Science and Technology Ministry. Both sides agreed to promote bilateral scientific and technology cooperation, develop and strengthen relations between universities, research institutes and scientific organizations.

The memorandum is of great significance not only for scientists but also for businessmen of the two countries. Belarus seeks for a tighter cooperation with Israel. In 2005 Belarus-Israel trade amounted to US$23 million, in 2011 the figure reached US$82 million. The trade figures for export and import is constantly increasing. Several joint ventures in agriculture, fish farm industry, poultry farming, and civil engineering have been set up.

Israeli Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov told reporters in Minsk that Belarus and Israel will devise a mechanism of simplifying bilateral visa travel rules in the near future. Misezhnikov noted that easier visa rules would allow a greater number of Israelis to visit Belarus and would make it possible for more Belarusian religious pilgrims to visit Christian sites in Israel.
