The Central Bureau of Statistics ( CBS ) announced last week that car ownership in Israel is less widespread than in developed countries.
 
In a press release the CBS noted that Israel has only 297 vehicles per 1,000 residents. According to the CBS car ownership in Israel is most common in the large cities. Tel Aviv had 609 vehicles per 1,000 residents, of which 425 cars were private cars.
 
On the other hand the city where car ownership was least common is Jerusalem. In the city of Jerusalem, including East Jerusalem, there are 206 vehicles per 1,000 residents, including 160 private cars.
 
The CBS noted that compared to Israel, the USA has 783 vehicles per 1,000 residents, Switzerland 703, Japan 688, and Australia 662. The UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Spain have between 406 and 599 vehicles per 1,000 residents.
 
37% of vehicles in Israel were made in Japan, 12% in France, 9/5% in Spain, 9% in South Korea , 9% in Germany , 6% in Italy, and 4.3% in the US.
